ANIL SINHA Sensei
Anil Sinha Sensei, a very senior 6th Dan JKA and presently Chairman of the Technical Committee of the JKAWF INDIA and the Chief Technical Advisor of the Karate India Organisation (KIO), started his Karate training in the late 1960s in England with Bob Poynton Sensei at Manchester University as well Sensei Anil sinha study kyokushin Kai with Shihan Stive Arneil ( pioneer of British kyokushin Kai )
He had won the British Universities’ Karate Championship in 1973 and received Shodan from Enoeda Sensei in 1974.
Returning to Kolkata, India, he pioneered Shotokan Karate in India and started teaching in the YMCA Wellington Branch, Kolkata in the middle of seventies, and gradually initiated spreading Shotokan, teaching and conducting Kyu examinations throughout the country.
Many of the current senior instructors of Shotokan Karate in India have learned directly from him or from his senior students.
Anil Sinha Sensei has captained the all-styles Indian karate team to the WUKO world championships at the Budokan in Tokyo in 1977 and went up to the top 16.
He had trained with and was graded to Nidan by Kanazawa Sensei in the same year. He has visited Japan many times later for advanced training, attended JKA’s all Japan championship in 1984 & 1985, and once received a bronze medal at the JKA’s Akita prefecture karate championships. As a competitor, he has represented the country competing in various world WUKO (now WKF) and Asian championships.
Sensei was then posted overseas by International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, and lived in many countries serving responsible positions.
In his role as a karate leader in the country, Anil Sinha Sensei had held high technical and administrative portfolios in the NationalnFederations of karate and headed the leading karate organization in India.
He is currently appointed as the Chief Technical Director of the “Karate India Organisation”, the WKF National Federation of Karate in India.
After retirement, now aged 72+, Anil Sinha Sensei is currently working as a Senior Strategic Advisor of an MNC hosted by World Bank Group. Currently, Sensei lives at his farmhouse in New Delhi where he trains regularly in his personal purpose to build dojo and gym.
Anil Sinha Sensei’s life is an ideal example of balance between education, karate, professional career, and family; and therefore, is an inspiration for all interested in Karate-Do and is highly respected across the martial arts community.
